Sridhar Durbhakula, M.D. is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with advanced training in the comprehensive treatment of hip and knee arthritis, including joint preservation techniques, minimally invasive partial and total joint replacement, and complex revision total joint replacement. He also utilizes the latest technologies in blood conservation and pain management to accelerate postoperative rehabilitation. In addition Dr. Durbhakula specializes in the minimally invasive treatment of hip fractures in the elderly population. Dr. Durbhakula attained both his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering and his medical degree as a member of the Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University. During that time he received an award for exemplary research presented at the prestigious Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. A native of upstate New York, Dr. Durbhakula completed his orthopaedic surgery training at Albany Medical Center. During that time he helped develop the original technique to performing a two-incision minimally invasive total hip replacement and worked on patenting a technique to treat complicated infections after total joint replacement. Dr. Durbhakula completed his fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital, in affiliation with Harvard Medical School. During that time he served on the faculty at Massachusetts General Hospital, participated in numerous clinical and basic science research efforts and received extensive training in revision total joint replacement and minimally invasive total joint replacement. Dr. Durbhakula has presented at numerous national meetings, including the American Orthopaedic Association and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has co-authored a textbook and numerous book chapters, and has multiple peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Durbhakula has great interest in continuing medical education and the advancement of orthopaedic technologies. He currently serves on the faculty at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and helps train other orthopaedic surgeons on minimally invasive surgical techniques. He is also closely involved with the implant manufacturing industry and helps to investigate and evaluate alternative bearing surfaces in total joint replacement, including metal-on-plastic, metal-on-metal and ceramic-on-ceramic articulations. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Durbhakula resides in Montgomery County, Maryland with his wife, who is a pediatrician, and their children. In his spare time he enjoys sports, travel and spending time with his family.
